Medicare is simply a health insurance plan that was developed by the Federal government in 1966. Original Medicare has two parts: Part A and Part B. Medicare Part A is referred to as "hospital" coverage and Medicare Part B is referred to as "medical" coverage.


In order for medical services to be considered for payment by Medicare, doctors, hospitals and other health care providers that are approved by Medicare must be used. Always check with your doctor or other health care provider to make sure he or she is Medicare-approved.
