Historically, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma’s practice has been to pay our members directly when they have received services from an out of network provider. This meant that the member would be responsible for using that payment to pay their responsible amounts to the out of network provider. In an effort to take the member out of the middle, BCBSOK has made the business decision to reconsider this practice. Effective Nov. 1, 2023, BCBSOK began, in most cases, issuing direct payment to out-of-network providers rather than issuing payment to the member. We feel this better assists our members in utilizing their out-of-network benefits.
